PRESENTATION OF THE POLE
(en)12/02/2007> Its role? AQUIMER is an active interface between companies' projects and their materialisation.
> Its objectives? AQUIMER contributes to the competitivity of companies by meeting their needs, by helping them to maintain and develop their activities through R&D and technological improvements.
AQUIMER : A TOOL AT THE SERVICE OF BUSINESSES, SCIENTISTS AND TRAINING CENTRES
> AQUIMER FACILITATES THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUR BUSINESS
The pole :
gathers your needs or helps you to identify them,- accompanies you through your thought process: in the building of research projects, putting you in touch with the appropriate contacts, advising you on the services best suited to your request,
- brings you the benefit of technical and administrative support from an operational team in the building of your projects (funding applications, consortium agreements, communication of results),
- brings you the benefit of funding dedicated to projects labellised by the Poles of Competitiveness,
- gives you access to mutualised technological tools, to a collaborative platform and to the Pole's Watch Centre (database available online, question and answer service...).
> AQUIMER MOBILISES THE FUNDING FOR YOUR RESEARCH AND TRAINING PROJECTS
AQUIMER helps to build your research projects and gives you access to funding dedicated to the Poles of Competitiveness. The pole :
- defines its research priorities at a national level and calls upon the competencies of scientists and training centres to produce concrete results,
- helps to put together research and development projects of public interest in partnership with professionals and scientific organisations, technical and training centres,
- co-ordinates collective actions,
- helps to mobilise the funding necessary for the execution projects and accompanies them in their building and administrative follow-up,
- facilitates networking on the Pole's themes.
In this mission of exchange with the scientific community, AQUIMER is backed by the Comité d'Orientation Scientifique, Technique et d'Innovation (COSTI). Within the Pole, the COSTI plays a unifying role at national level: rings together all the scientific players and their competencies to constitute a wealth of propositions on the collective tasks to be undertaken and then to ensure that they are monitored and implemented. Innovative PRODUCTS drawing on new technologies with tighter sanitary safety
AQUIMER's programmes focus on three themes: :- the promotion of fishing and aquaculture products and co-products.
- the strengthening of technicality and the business environment
- The improvement of sanitary safety
- the validation of objective, reliable and rapid methods to determine the freshness of fish fillets,
- perfect control of surface contamination of food-processing equipment by pathogens, which is necessary to avoid food contamination,
- the improvement in fish conservation with the development of new processes (high pressure )
> Aim : To help businesses implement and market products with higher value added in order to satisfy consumer expectations
> Issue : Today, fishing resources are limited, regulated (quotas) and the only possible way forward for businesses in the aquatic products sector is through optimum development of production. So far the development of co-products has not been sufficiently investigated and it is thought that only 50% of aquatic production tonnage is properly exploited.
> Some examples of AQUIMER's projects :
Numerous programmes labellised by the AQUIMER Pole deal with the development of co-products in the areas of :
- human food : fish pulp, intermediary food products
- dietetics : food supplements,
- cosmetics and « wellness » : collagen, peptides with biological activities

> Aim : to make information useful for their development available to businesses and to help them to set up the tools required to improve their competitivity, with a view to sustainable development.
> Issue : The aquatic products sector is undergoing restructuration due to economic constraints (fuel costs], environmental constraints (the decrease in resources) and regulatory constraints.
> Some examples of AQUIMER's projects :
he AQUIMER Pole is highly committed to programmes on the themes of :
- Ecolabels : participation in discussions on conditions for eco-certification of French fisheries,
- traceability : report on the state of the ability of players to acquire the methods and tools which will allow them to reach a satisfactory level of electronic traceability and propositions for technical solutions which will lead to a common tool,
- eco-conception : energy conservation by optimising production processes, a reduction in the environmental impact of packaging.

> Aim : to promote production and reassure the consumer in his or her choices.
> Issue : for about twenty years, successive alimentary crises have alarmed consumers and incited the authorities and professionals to implement new safety measures to monitor the sanitary safety of products intended for human food consumption.
